Monday, January 6, 2020 - Breathing In

It’s the new year, and I’m trying to slow down, woodshed, and breathe in for a while. This is the first day I’ve had at home since before the holidays when I could really take stock and do some planning. I cherish the quiet days when I can write and ponder a bit. I have a little time before I have to start tax work, and I hope to luxuriate in thought along with my other duties. I think it’s really important to do this. I find that when I write down my ideas I have to formulate my thoughts and really work out different lines of thinking. One of the lines of thinking I came across recently in a book was these four questions:

Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing here?
What am I going to do in light of this?

I like these kind of deep thought experiments and explorations. It gets into philosophy and spirituality. You have to know that this is where I thrive. You can take these questions for just where you are today in your tasks and schedule or where you are in your whole life. I know that a lot of people never ask these kind of questions, but I like them. I guess it’s just part of where musicians and song-folks dwell. Anyway, this is where I’m going to start my breathing in today along with a couple walks with our dog Beau and a few projects before I’m back to playing tomorrow. Take care, and take time to breathe in.

What have I been up to?

Bistoro last Friday was great fun! We had some old and new friends and some great interaction and singing. I can’t wait ‘til the next time!

Sunday was my online concert on Facebook Live, and it was a real song variety with several requests and a mixture of 1920’s, winter, and folk rock songs. Thanks to all who tuned in and made it so great! I talked about possibly doing a few extra online shows with different themes this winter, and I just may do that. I get such a kick out of playing for folks that I don’t get to see or play for very often.

What am I up to this week?

Sunday 10:30-11:30 I’m playing music for the Cuchara Chapel service in Cuchara. I do these once a month, and I always love the folks there and the challenge of choosing just the right music to do. Come on out if you’d like a beautiful morning in the mountains and a little spiritual boost.

That’s it for this week. I hope your new year is starting out well. Stay tuned!

Best always,

Tom
