Monday, July 29, 2019 - Getting Along

I’m approaching a more delicate topic with my usual mind-frame today - getting along.  I spent last week with lots of different people - old friends, family, and new acquaintances.  If you’ve read my thoughts in the past you’ll know that I see the world pretty plainly.  I believe that love is the most important thing and that ultimately we are all interconnected - scientifically and spiritually.  But in the world there are many mind-frames.  So when I interact with other people I look into their eyes and try to see where they are in their journey in this life.  Some are angry and distant - reflecting a world that has been unfair to them and has made them suspicious and fearful.  Some are warm and are instantly relatable - like an old friend I’ve shared many moments with over a lifetime.  No matter what the situation, I try to not be guarded, sharing the joy of living and a respect for all.  When there are disagreements I try to rise above them and see our interconnectedness.  When there is agreement I try not to talk about issues and others.  Instead I focus on the person and try to share in our lives and experiences.  In this current culture where we thrill at poking and prodding for a reaction it is more difficult to get along.  But I believe in the end we will see that it is worthwhile and that our differences make us stronger and more fulfilled.  Love is always the goal.

What have I been up to?

Monday at the Royal Gorge Bridge was a beautiful day - much cooler and fun all around.  Unfortunately, one of the sound engineers we have worked with several days has had to end his summer work with a foot infection that has caused him to have his leg amputated below the knee.  We wish him the best as he heals and adapts.

Thursday at the Yellow Pine was a really cool day too.  There were many friendly faces and even a visit from Daniel Market whom I’ll be playing a few gigs with in August and early September.

Friday was a wonderful concert at Philmont Scout Ranch during the annual reunion where hugs were all around and music that warmed our hearts and memories was in abundance.

What am I up to this week?

Monday 12:30-4:30  I’m at the Royal Gorge Bridge with my bass-playing friend Dennis Mills.  We are having a great time learning new songs and interacting with the visitors there, and I’d love to have you if you’re up for a Royal Gorge visit.

Thursday 6:30-8ish I’m at the Yellow Pine for the Barbecue.  I say “8ish” because the ending time is never the same - when folks are dancing and making requests we go longer.  Either way it is a great experience with good food in the great old barn accompanied by my music.  If you’d like to be a part of it call 719-742-3528 for a reservation by Tuesday.

Friday 6-9 I’m at Bistoro for the wonderful atmosphere and food that Joette, Pellumb, and their staff put out in their lovely establishment.  It is a true pleasure to be part of their Bistoro family.  Please support them and their support of live music and artistic living and eating.

Saturday I have two private parties in Cuchara that will have me jumping all day with great friends.

Sunday 7-8:15 MDT is my First-Sunday Online Living Room Concert.  I LOVE doing these concerts from my living room.  It is my chance to play for those who can’t make it to my gigs because of proximity or scheduling.  Some people just prefer the homey vibe and intimacy.  Either way I’d love to have you tune in from whatever screen you happen to be in front of.  Just point your browser to concertwindow.com/tommunch  at 7:00 mountain time and sit back and listen.  You can even comment on the chat window or send me an email or text if you like.

That’s it for this week.  I so enjoy life and the opportunities I have to share music and friendship with so many folks.  Getting along is just the start.

Best always,

Tom
